Our mission at Xtraroom is to provide high quality and stylish products that can help you maximize the square footage of your home by helping you reclaiming unused space and/or making that space multifunctional. So you can only imagine how much it means to us when we hear that we've been mentioned in articles that discuss the best Murphy Beds on the market.

Are you struggling to stay productive while working from home? If you’ve found it hard to carve out a dedicated workspace in your small apartment or house, you’re not alone. As rents continue to rise and homes shrink in size, the challenge of creating an effective work environment at home has become a reality for many. But what if there’s a way to have it all—an office space and a bedroom—in the same room, without sacrificing either? A Murphy bed with a desk could be just the solution you need.

Whether you're hunting for an apartment, condo, or even a small home, one thing is clear: the cost of rent keeps climbing. But what if you could still get the space you need without stretching your budget? It’s time to start thinking outside the box and get creative with your space—specifically, with multifunctional furniture like Murphy beds.

In the recent article "The Best Murphy Beds to Turn Any Room Into a Guest Room for the Holidays" published in House Beautiful's online magazine, Xtraroom was named the 'Best Murphy Bed with Desk.' We couldn't be more thrilled or honored to be included in their list, and we hope you check out their article!

Our downsized life was working out perfectly… until the first Christmas rolled around that all the kids decided to come home simultaneously. Cue the dramatic music! We had three grown boys/men and only two beds (that’s if you count the sofa bed - which everyone would prefer didn't exist). So, we made the logical move and installed a Murphy bed in my office. Practical? Absolutely! Comfortable? You better believe it! We put a very nice mattress on it, so nobody could complain about sleeping on it.

We all know that buying big-ticket items online can sometimes feel a bit daunting. You’re excited to get that new bed, but let’s be real: it can be nerve-wracking not being able to see, touch, or try it out before hitting that purchase button. Fear not! At Xtraroom, we’re here to make that experience as smooth as possible. Let’s walk through the order process together, so you know exactly what to expect.

So, can you sleep on a Murphy bed every night? Absolutely, yes! Modern Murphy beds are designed to be safe, durable and supportive enough for daily use, making them a fantastic option for spaces that double as living and sleeping areas. Let’s dive into why they’re a great choice and what you need to keep in mind.

Vertical vs. Horizontal Murphy Beds: Which One Fits Your Space? When it comes to maximizing your living space, Murphy beds are an absolute game changer. These nifty beds fold up against the wall when not in use, turning any room into a multi-functional space. But if you’re considering adding one to your home, you might be wondering about the difference between vertical and horizontal Murphy beds. Let’s dive into the details and see which might be the perfect fit for you! Alegra Queen Murphy Bed with Desk The Classic Vertical Murphy Bed The vertical Murphy bed is the most traditional style you’ll come across. Picture this: when you open the cabinet, the bed folds down from the head, kind of like a giant wall-mounted picture frame. This style is also known as the “portrait” orientation because it’s taller than it is wide. The mattress is stored on its short end, which means the bed takes up less wall space. Pros: Space Efficiency: Because it’s taller, it’s great for rooms with limited wall space. This means you can have a full-sized bed without it consuming too much of your precious wall area. Compact Design: When folded up, it’s compact and unobtrusive, which is perfect if you’re working with smaller rooms. Cons: Ceiling Height Requirement: One of the significant drawbacks of the vertical Murphy bed is that it needs a decent amount of ceiling height. The cabinet plus the space required to attach the top of the bed to the wall can be a challenge in older homes, basements, or places with low ceilings or bulkheads. Adonis Queen Horizontal Murphy Bed The Versatile Horizontal Murphy Bed Enter the horizontal Murphy bed—a fantastic alternative if your space or ceiling height is limited. Instead of folding down from the head, this bed folds out from the side. It’s like the horizontal cousin of the vertical model. This design significantly reduces the ceiling height needed for installation and minimizes how far the bed extends into the room. Pros: Lower Ceiling Requirement: With this model, you don’t need as much ceiling height, which makes it a fantastic option for rooms with lower ceilings or awkward architectural features. Space Saver: When deployed, it takes up less floor space because it doesn’t extend as far out into the room, making it ideal for smaller spaces. Cons: Wall Space: It does require more wall space from side to side, so you might need to consider how it fits into your room’s layout. You can view our full collection of horizontal Murphy beds HERE!  Style and Functionality Choosing a Murphy bed doesn’t mean you’re stuck with bland, utilitarian designs. Both vertical and horizontal options come in a range of styles that can complement your décor. Whether you’re looking for something sleek and modern or more traditional, there are plenty of options available. Alegra Full Horizontal Murphy Bed If you’re in need of a multifunctional solution, some Murphy beds come with built-in desks or additional storage. This is ideal if you’re setting up a home office or need extra space for books, gadgets, or office supplies. Adonis Queen Horizontal Murphy Bed with Desk Making Your Choice So, which Murphy bed is right for you? If you have ample ceiling height and want to save on wall space, a vertical Murphy bed could be your best bet. On the other hand, if you’re dealing with lower ceilings or need to maximize every inch of your room, a horizontal Murphy bed might be the smarter choice. In the end, both styles offer the flexibility and functionality that can turn any room into a versatile living space. It’s all about assessing your room’s specific needs and choosing the design that will make the most of your space.

We are thrilled to have been listed among the best Murphy beds in a Drew and Jonathan online article. "7 Best Murphy Beds to Maximize Your Space" explores different Murphy bed models and how they can assist you in making the most of your space wether it's making your home office into a multifunctional office/guest bed, or adding extra storage to your space as well as a bed.

The desire to maximize every square inch of our homes is more relevant than ever. As housing costs rise and urban living spaces shrink, the idea of optimizing space has become a necessity rather than a luxury. One popular solution that often comes to mind is the Murphy bed – that ingenious contraption that folds up into a wall or cabinet when not in use.

We at Xtraroom are absolutely thrilled to have been once again named the Best Murphy Bed with Desk. Forbes' recently published article The Best Murphy Beds For Any Purpose, Budget, And Space recognized our innovative design and quality craftsmanship. Providing excellent space-saving solutions for our customers is our passion and we are proud to have once again been acknowledged.

In the ever-evolving landscape of remote work, the concept of a home office has taken on new dimensions. Gone are the days of traditional cubicles and sterile work environments. Today, the home office is a canvas for creativity and functionality, with one question challenging the norms: Can a home office have a bed in it? The resounding answer is yes, and it's not just a compromise for those with limited space.

What is a multifunctional room? Do you ever find yourself yearning for extra space in your home, a place where you can seamlessly blend different functionalities without compromising on style or comfort? Well, welcome to the world of multifunctional rooms – a game-changer in the realm of home design. Picture this: a home gym and a kids' playroom sharing the same space, or a cozy home office doubling as a guest room. It's not a fantasy; it's the beauty of multifunctional rooms. The allure of these spaces lies in their ability to serve more than one purpose, offering homeowners the luxury of enjoying multiple functionalities without sacrificing valuable square footage. Imagine having the best of both worlds, where you can indulge in your favorite activities without feeling the need to designate a separate room for each. One of the standout features of multifunctional rooms is their ability to maximize space utilization. In a world where real estate is at a premium, being able to merge two functionalities into one room is a real estate dream come true. No longer do you need to make the tough choice between having a home gym or a playroom for the kids – with a multifunctional room, you can have both, creating a win-win situation for the entire family. Now, if you're wondering how to seamlessly blend, for instance, a bedroom with another function, the answer lies in the genius of Murphy beds. Bedrooms traditionally consume a significant amount of space, dominated by a large bed. Enter the Murphy bed – a revolutionary solution that allows you to tuck away your bed when not in use, reclaiming valuable floor space for other activities. The beauty of Murphy beds lies not only in their space-saving prowess but also in their evolution in style and design. Forget the clunky, outdated versions you may remember from years past. Modern Murphy beds come in an array of styles, finishes, and configurations, making them a stylish addition to any room. You can seamlessly integrate them into your existing decor, turning what was once a utilitarian piece into a chic focal point. The versatility of multifunctional rooms, combined with the space-saving magic of Murphy beds, opens up a world of possibilities for homeowners. No longer bound by the constraints of single-purpose rooms, you can transform your living space into a dynamic and adaptable environment that suits the evolving needs of your household. Imagine a craft room that effortlessly transforms into a basement hangout for movie nights, or a home office that welcomes guests with the pull-down elegance of a Murphy bed with desk. The possibilities are endless, and the satisfaction of making the most out of your living space is immeasurable. The era of multifunctional rooms is here to stay, offering a practical and stylish solution for those looking to make the most of their homes. So, why settle for one purpose when you can have it all? Embrace the versatility, break free from the limitations of single-use spaces, and let your home evolve with the changing needs of your lifestyle. After all, in the world of home design, it's not about having more space; it's about making the most of the space you have.

So, you've decided it's time to create a little haven for productivity within the confines of your room. Fantastic! But before you start rearranging furniture and bringing in the office supplies, let's ask ourselves a few crucial questions to tailor the setup to your unique needs. 1. What's the Primary Function of Your Room? Is your room primarily a bedroom with the occasional office duty, a full-time office with guest bedroom potential, or a multitasking wizard juggling the roles of both bedroom and office daily? Understanding the main function of your space is the first step in finding the right balance. 2. How Do You Work? Are you a laptop warrior, or do you command a desktop with multiple monitors? Knowing your work style is essential in designing a space that caters to your workflow seamlessly. 3. The Dedicated Desk Dilemma If your work involves the intricate dance of multiple monitors and a desktop, a dedicated desk is your go-to solution. Nobody wants to play Jenga with their desktop setup every time they need to catch some Zs. A permanent desk can stay put, making life a lot simpler. 4. The Laptop Liberation For those wielding the power of a laptop, your options just got a whole lot more exciting. Enter the Murphy bed with a desk – a dynamic duo designed to give you a functional workspace during the day and a cozy bed at night. With self-leveling technology, your desk can seamlessly transform into a sleep haven without the hassle of dismantling and reassembling your work setup. 5. Storage: The Unsung Hero Evaluate your storage needs. Are you drowning in paperwork or just need a spot for your favorite bedtime reads? Many Murphy beds come with built-in cabinetry, offering a blend of closed and open storage solutions. This means you can keep your space organized and uncluttered, whether you're working, sleeping, or hosting guests.   Setting up a small home office in your room is all about understanding your unique needs and working style. Whether you're a desktop aficionado or a laptop luminary, there's a solution that can transform your room into a multifunctional space that suits your lifestyle. So, think about your primary room function, evaluate your work habits, and let the magic of a thoughtfully designed home office unfold. Happy organizing!
